Investigation of the mixing characteristics of industrial flotation columns using computational fluid dynamics

The mixing characteristics of industrial flotation columns were investigated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Particular emphasis was placed on the clarification relationship between liquid and solids parameters such as mean residence time axial dispersion coefficients. effects particle size bubble in column also studied. An Eulerian-Eulerian method applied to simulate multiphase flow, while additional scalar transport equations introduced predict distribution (RTD) age inside column. results obtained show that decreases with increasing size. coarser particles (112.5 pm) found be at least 60% time, finer (19 had a similar liquid. an increase decrease vessel number, increases mixing. Finally, simulated velocity profiles confirm similarity coefficients flotation.
